Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of financial literacy on payment attitudes and absorption attitudes of savings using a typical financial literacy questionnaire containing the basics of numeracy, interest rates, inflation, and diversification topics. The author uses 2 binary variables, namely payment attitudes and saving attitudes to capture individual financial behavior in this study. The method used is a survey method using a questionnaire given to respondents to be answered. This research method uses quantitative, and the sample consists of 230 working adults in Indonesia. The results showed that payment attitudes had a positive effect on Financial Literacy, Age, Education, Marital Status, Type of Accommodation, and also the results of saving attitudes showed that they had a positive effect on Financial Literacy and Age. This study only focuses on knowing the extent of financial literacy among working adults in Indonesia. As a result, these findings do not fully reflect Indonesia's actual level of financial literacy. Developing countries have begun to modernize their economies. Governments that want to design effective economic reforms need to understand the financial skills of their citizens. This study may have implications for policy makers and financial educators in improving financial knowledge programs for individuals. This paper contributes to the study of financial literacy from the perspective of emerging markets. The relationship between components of financial literacy, knowledge, behaviour, and attitudes in the general public could be the topic of future research. Furthermore, because the number of respondents in this study is small (only 230), it is hoped that future research would include a larger number of respondents.
