Abstract

The relationship between competition and banking stability has long been a point of contention until several crises occurred in the world, both theoretically and empirically. The important question of whether competition increases the stability of banking Islamic or, conversely, whether competition creates instability in Indonesia's banking Islamic system is examined in this study. This study analyzes the effect of competition and stability on the effectiveness of Islamic banks in Indonesia. Perform estimation by selecting the balanced panel data of Islamic bank released by Indonesia Stock Exchange, stability will be analyzed by z-score, competition will be measured by Lerner index, and effectiveness will be measured by return on asset. This is a quantitative study using targeted sampling techniques, the research sample in this paper is the balanced panel data of Islamic bank in Indonesia. This study will help financial regulators and banks to differentiate their regulatory policies and business strategies more effectively, enabling banks to better control risks and improve resilience in a diverse competitive environment. EViews 12 was used for the analysis of the data gathered. Based on data analysis carried out using panel data regression analysis, it shows that the independent variables competition have a significant effect on effectiveness of Islamic banks in Indonesia for the 2014–2022 period,conversely, stability has no effect significant to the effectiveness.
