Abstract

The title of this final report is Writing a Bilingual Children's Storybook Entitled: The Masterpiece of South Sumatra: Wonderful Indonesia. This study was based on the growing concern over the decreasing understanding of cultural values and English language skills among children, influenced by the rise of digital media. The objective of this research is to describe the process of developing a bilingual storybook that introduces Indonesian culture in a way that is engaging and educational for young readers. The storybook is designed as a learning medium to promote both cultural awareness and early English language acquisition. It highlights cultural elements from twelve regencies in South Sumatra, such as traditional dances, folktales, and local heritage. The book also integrates moral values and character education to enhance the meaningfulness of the content. This product was developed using the Educational Design Research (EDR) model by Plomp (2013), which consists of three phases: preliminary, prototyping, and assessment. The result was a bilingual children’s storybook written in Indonesian and English, using vocabulary and sentence structures that are appropriate for children's language development. Illustrative designs were also included to support children's understanding and interest. Expert validation was conducted to ensure the book’s feasibility. The Indonesian script received a score of 96.67%, the English script 87.5%, the illustration design 88%, and the storybook content 97%. These results indicate that the book is highly feasible and suitable to be published as an educational resource for cultural and language learning.
