Abstract
This study aims to examine the implementation of museum standards at SMB II Museum Palembang by focusing on four key aspects: general standards, collection standards, location standards, and facility standards. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method using a purposive sampling technique, with one participant, namely the museum manager, who was chosen due to their direct responsibility and deep understanding of museum operations and standard implementation. Data were collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews. Observation was carried out over two days to analyze the museum’s physical environment, infrastructure, and accessibility. The interview, conducted on the third day in a structured format, aimed to gather managerial insights regarding the implementation, challenges, and strategic efforts related to museum standards. The interview data were transcribed, categorized thematically, and triangulated with field observations and relevant literature to ensure validity. The findings indicate that SMB II Museum has implemented several essential elements of national museum standards. These include the presence of information boards equipped with QR codes, comfortable air circulation through colonial-style windows, strategic location in the city center, and public facilities such as toilets, lobby, parking area, and security posts. However, the museum still lacks a conservation laboratory, reference library, permanent exhibition space, and inclusive facilities for people with disabilities. Additionally, most of the collections are replicas, and staff break facilities are inadequate. In conclusion, while the museum demonstrates a commitment to meeting national museum standards, further improvements in infrastructure, accessibility, and managerial support are necessary to enhance its role as a cultural and educational institution.
