Abstract

Microalgae-based biodiesel is an alternative energy source sufficient potential for microalgae cells have a lipid that can be further processed into biodiesel fuel. Chlorella sp has a lipid content of 28%-32%. This microalgae lipids extracted maseration methode using orbital shaker with hexane solvent. In this study, lipid microalgae have first do esterification process with methanol and acid catalyst (H2SO4) at 55oC for 1 hour. Concentrated acid catalyst using in this study is 0,5%, 1%, 1,5%, and 2%. Then followed by transesterification with methanol and alkaline catalyst (KOH) at 55oC. In transesterification process use time reaction 30 minute, 60 minute, 90 minute and 120 minute. Optimum conditions of acid catalyst is 1,5% and time reaction is 60 minute and 90 minute. Analysis performed is flash point and calorific value, where the result of biodiesel into the flash point range SNI is 130oC to 180oC but analysis of calorific value not yet SNI range because it has not reached a value of 10160 cal/gram. Key words: Chlorella Vulgaris, Microalgae lipids, Biodiesel, Acid Catalyst, Alkaline Catalyst
