Abstract

A research has been done by using a dual-type solar dryer. Energy supply is obtained from 100 wp photovoltaic modules and thermal collectors with a cross-sectional area of 0.23 m2. The dried solids are in the form of chili with initial moisture content of 82%. Variations of energy sources conducted to see the effectiveness of the drying process. Calculation of the rate of drying and moisture content of chili drying process has been dones to see the drying characteristics. The parameters were observed drying process conditions (air temperature into the drying chamber, relative humidity, and drying air flow rate) as well as the water content of the end product. Based on these parameters, dryer drying with a high rate achieved in the use of dual energy with measurement results drying rate is equal to 0.113 to 0.135 kg / m2 h, with a drying time which is 5 hours for drying 500 grams of chili. While the lowest drying rate is obtained by using a thermal collector as a supplier of energy, ie the value of 0.02595 kg / m2 h with a time of 27 hours.
