Subbituminus coal has a carbon content and low energy, moisture content, volatile substances and inorganic mineral is high. So subbituminus coal is used as a raw material for making activated carbon. Activated carbon is an absorbent material that is used many industries. The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of size of particles and concentrate aktivator hcl active carbon from coal subbituminus on the quality activated carbon which refers to the standard activated carbon (SII No. 0258-79). The process of making activated carbon activated carbon consists of carbonization process with termperatur 500 0C and activation of the activator is HCl. The results showed that activated carbon is made with 0,2 M HCl concentrations produce a good quality. The quality of the resulting activated carbon has a moisture content of 5%, 6% ash content, absorption of iodine is 951.825 mg / g, all the analyzed quality standards-(SII 0258-79. The next step absorbent material content of heavy metal ions in the liquid waste land chemical laboratory. The result showed that the absorption of optimal zinc metal (Zn) happened to size of particles 200 mesh and concentration hcl 0.2 M. While the absorption of optimal iron metal (Fe) happened to size of particles 200 mesh and concentration hcl 0.2 m. From the research is obtainable that active carbon from coal subbituminus usable to absorb zink and iron of the liquid waste laboratoium chemical land polytechnic state of sriwijaya .
