Abstract

The processing of oil palm can produce a lot of waste that damage the environment, one of the waste generated, namely Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME). This waste has a high concentration and the color is dark brown. Therefore, to treat POME can be solved by biological processes. POME can be integrated with cow dung used as raw material for the manufacture of alternative energy, one of which is biogas. cattle dung contain C/N ratio is low so as to lower the C/N ratio is high at POME. To change POME into biogas can be done with two processes, namely: the first process of acclimatization process (seeding microorganisms), made by mixing liquid manure with POME on the ratio of 1: 2 in dark glass bottles. Then proceed with the second process, namely the anaerobic fermentation process using a batch digester beam system which has three tanks. Seed active microbes that have been prepared from the previous acclimatization process was added to the digester at the second beam with a variation starter volume percentage of 10%, 20%, and 30% of the volume of the beam with a time of ferment for four days. Biogas testing conducted on the first day and fourth day, so we get the effect of a starter and a volume percentage of the quantity of biogas fermentation obtained. Each variation of the percentage of the volume of starter produce biogas quantity varies in each condition, so that it can be concluded that the provision of starter greatly affect the amount of the percentage of the quantity of biogas itself. The greater the number of starters, the more gas is produced. Similarly, the longer the fermentation time fermentation time, the gas produced by the more, since the organic biodegradation process takes longer.
