Abstract
This final report aims to design a bilingual children’s storybook entitled The Journey of the Woven Mat as a medium to introduce cultural heritage. The problem addressed in this study is that the purun mat craft from Pedamaran, South Sumatra, is becoming less known among the younger generation due to the influence of modern products, the decreasing number of weavers, and the limited availability of learning media that introduce this cultural heritage. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through interviews, observation, literature study, and expert review. The data obtained were used as the basis for arranging the story content, illustrations, and cultural information presented in the storybook. The final output of this study is a bilingual picture storybook (Indonesian and English) that uses simple language and cartoon-style illustrations. The content of the storybook introduces purun mats, the materials used, the weaving process, and the cultural values associated with the craft. Based on the expert review results, the storybook is considered appropriate for Level D readers according to the Indonesian Book Leveling Guidelines (BSKAP, 2022) and can be used as an educational medium to introduce local cultural heritage. The storybook is expected to help reintroduce purun mat craft to children in an engaging and understandable way. Keywords: bilingual, children, cultural heritage, purun mat, storybook
