Abstract

This study aims to compare the performance of two popular SDR devices, namely RTL-SDR and HackRF, in receiving ACARS signals. The analyzed parameters include reception sensitivity, signal quality (signal-to-noise ratio), data decoding success rate, and reception stability at ACARS operating frequencies. The research method used is an experimental approach by conducting direct testing using both devices under the same environmental conditions. Data collection was carried out with the assistance of ACARS decoding software, and the results were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results show that HackRF has advantages in terms of frequency flexibility and wider bandwidth, while RTL-SDR excels in reception stability and cost efficiency. In the context of ACARS signal reception, both devices perform well but exhibit different performance characteristics depending on environmental conditions and system configuration.
