Abstract
Utilization of water as an alternative energy one is to turn it into a gaseous form through the process of electrolysis with electrolyte. In addition, to convert water into the gas needed flow of electrical current and the cell electrodes to decompose water into hydrogen and oxygen gas. Electrolyte solution used was KOH solution. The variation of the concentration of KOH solution used was 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00 and 1.25 M with electrodes in the form of stainless steel rods with dimensions of length 30 cm and 8 cm for the anode to the cathode with a diameter of 1 inch. From that problem, the Prototype Hydrogen Fuel Generator with Insulating Cotton is designed. The purpose of this tool is used to generate hydrogen gas through the separation zone between the H2 and O2 gases are produced. From the data processing, the production of hydrogen gas produced increases with the thick concentration of KOH electrolyte solution used. The highest production of hydrogen gas is obtained at a concentration of 1.25 M KOH is 950,8 ml and the production of hydrogen gas is lowest at a concentration of 0.25 M is 142,9 ml. The results obtained from the performance efficiency tool that has been done can be obtained efficiency of the performance. Efficiency performance with KOH is 14,81 %.
