Abstract
Sewage which throw away into environment without some treatment in advance, it caused pollutions and had been impact for water body. Treatment of sewage water by electrocoagulation can be removed pollutants in the effluent. Electrocoagulation is the waste of treatment technology using an electrochemical process by anode will release coagulant active form of metal ion (Al or Fe) into the solution, while at the cathode electrolysis reaction occurs in the form of the release of hydrogen gas to form a floc which is able to bind contaminant and particles in the effluent . This research carried out in batch process by using aluminum electrodes with dimensions of 15 cm x 15 cm and inter electrode distance 1 cm. The parameters were measured pH, TSS, BOD5, COD, PO4, fat and oil, detergent concentration by varying the voltage of 6, 9 and 12 volts and processing time for 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 minutes. The optimum conditions for this treatment were at 12 volts with the processing time 150 minutes. Effectiveness electrocoagulation process of sewage water for TSS 75%, BOD5 66.04%, COD 64.37%, PO4 46.82%, fat and oil 60.42%, detergent concentration 82.69%. The result of this research was also obtained current efficiency 74.76% respectively and it have fulfilled the quality standards of environmental.
