Abstract
One of the environmental problems in the world is plastic waste. Plastic needs progressively increasing. This is because plastic has advantages compared to other media such as metal or glass. So in this study aims to create biodegradable plastics from cornstarch, determine the concentration of glycerol and the addition of the best acid in the process of making biodegradable plastics from cornstarch, knowing the mechanical properties, swelling test (endurance test water) and the biodegradability of biodegradable plastic that is formed based cornstarch. This research was conducted with an experimental method (experimental) with biodegradable plastic manufacturing process, product analysis, biodegradation test and tensile strength test biodegradable plastic products. The most optimum results there on a comparison of 1.5 ml acetate and 5% glycerin. The test results in the form of a tensile test sedngkan already meet the standards for testing swelling and biodegradation test yet meet the standards of ISO 856:2012.
