Abstract

Belt conveyor is one of the most material handling equipment used in many industries around the world. Belt Conveyor can be used to transport fertilizer, cement, coal and others. The capacity depends on the width of the belt conveyor, motor power, distance removal area, material that will be transport and speed of belt conveyor. As a case study, PT. PUSRI Palembang has a belt conveyor series 5857-V with a capacity of 600 tons per hour. The purpose of this case study was to find a large payload capacity and conveyor belt speed series 5857-V, to determine the power motor needed to drive conveyor belt is loaded and compare with in the field condition now. Based on the data obtained motor power in the field is 37 kW, the actual capacity of the conveyor belt is 436.71312 tons per hour and the speed of belt is 0.93 m/s. Meanwhile, from the results of the calculation, to achieve the normally capacity of 600 tons per hour, belt conveyor requires a speed of 1.3 m/s by using 49.04 kW motor power.
