Abstract

Subbituminus is one of the coal which have low value of calorific and high levels of water. Subbituminus is low rank coal that ineffective to used as a fuel. The utilization of subbituminus coal to humic acid can provide added the value of subbituminus coal. This study aims to find out the optimum ratio and extraction time of subbituminus coal to humic acid. Production of humic acid from subbituminus coal using KOH 1,4 N solution as a solvent, temperature of extraction 750C and stirring speed of 700 rpm. The result of this extraction process then filtered and separated the humic acid from fulvic acid by adding HCl solution as a precipitation agent. The stage of subbituminus coal extraction are selection of raw materials, extraction process, precipitation, filtration, precipitation by adding the HCl solution, centrifugation and evaporation. This research used various ratio coal and solvent (1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5 and 1:10 (w/v)) and time of extraction (30, 60, 90, 120 minute). Humic acid that produced by this extraction is obtained percent yield and purity analysis. Commercial humic acid has a purity of 75%- 95%. The result of this research shown that optimum condition of subbituminus coal extraction to humic acid with ratio coal and solvent 1:2 (w/v) and extraction time of 120 minute obtained 1,6 grams, yielded 5,34% and purity of 86,88%.
