Abstract

The consistency of using only one English style in English scientific work like final report is very important to show credibility of the writer. Because of that, the writer presented this final report entitled “Identifying American and British style used on English Department Final Report in State Polytechnic of Sriwijaya”. This final report aimed at identifying English style used in chapter 1 of English Department Final Report. This final report discussed about the kinds of differences between American and British English and how is the consistency of English style used by the students in chapter 1 . The purpose of final report was to find out the consistency of English style used by students in chapter 1 and which English style used by the students. In this final report, the writer used documentation. Therefore, the data collected from identifying chapter 1 of 20 final report samples from 2017 students by collecting 20 samples of final report, reading chapter 1 from each samples, identifying the consistency of English style used in chapter 1, and interpreting identification result of English style used in chapter 1 of English Department Final Report. The result showed that the students of English Department did not know the differences of American and British English. They mixed American and British English style in their chapter 1.
