Abstract
Pulp is the raw material for making paper and chemical compounds of cellulose derivatives. Pulp can be made from various types of wood, bamboo, and grass pulp fiber separation is the result of fibrous raw materials (wood and non-wood) through the process of making either mechanically, semi chemical, and chemically. Search for alternative raw materials are needed to reduce dependence on wood pulp. One of the materials that can be used as an alternative raw material for making pulp is Sansevieria. Sansevieria has the same structure as the Pineapple Leaves cellulose fiber that is high enough so that it can be used as materials for pulp. Sansevieria made into pulp by using a solution process cookers Organosolv Methanol. Methanol as solvent use in the manufacture of pulp cookers little impact on the environment making it environmentally friendly. This study aimed to determine the effect of Methanol concentration and cooking time for yield, cellulose content and lignin content. The variables used in this study is the concentration of methanol 30%, 35%, 40%, 45%, 50% and cooking time 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes The results obtained at the optimum concentration of methanol 40% and cooking time 90 minutes with a yield of 56,85%, 71,02% cellulose content and kappa number of 10,90 Key Words : Sansevieria, Pulp, Organosolv Method, Methanol
