Abstract

PROTOTYPE OF BIOMASS GASIFICATION (COCONUT SHELL) UPDRAFT SINGLE GAS OUTLET SYSTEM (The Effect of Water Flow Rate in Wet Scrubber Ventury Againts Syngas Product) (Pratama Kusuma W, 2014, 62 Pages, 10 Tables, 17 Pictures, 4 Appendixes) An alternative energy that is being developed is an energy derived from organic ingredients, this is because the organic compounds classified as renewable energy. One of them is a coconut shell biomass. Technological potential in utilizing coconut shell as a source of energy is the gasification technology. Gasification produces combustible gases such as CH4, CO and H2 through the combustion with a limited amount of air and impurities such as tar. In this study, the type of gasifier is the updraft system will be used more in conjunction with the release of tar produced syngas. Tar is the most detrimental impurities and should be avoided because it is corrosive. Therefore, the gas cleaning technology used in reducing the tar contained in the syngas through a ventury wet scrubber. This study aimed to obtain the optimal water flow rate in the use of wet scrubber by varying the flow rate of water at 8 lpm, 12 lpm and 16 lpm thus obtained we value efficiency ventury scrubber performance. The results of this study indicate that variation lies in the water flow rate 16 lpm obtained efficiency ventury wet scrubber performance of 52.53% which is the optimal water flow rate brought tar in reducing syngas.
