Abstract

EFFECT OF TIME AND TEMPERATURE AGAINST QUALITY IMPROVEMENT OF YOUNG COAL (LIGNITE) BY USING DIESEL FUEL AND USED OIL AS STABILIZER (Roffina, 2014, 64 Pages, 6 Tables, 7 Figures, 3 Appendix) The potential of lignite coal is not so great to be a fuel, in addition to a low calorific value, moisture content of the lignite coal is big. Coal with low calorific value will affect the speed of combustion. In the utilization of lignite coal as an alternative solid fuels in industry, especially in Indonesia, then performed the uprgrading (Coal Quality Improvement) one such method is UBC (Upgrading Brown Coal) with a solvent mixture of used oil and diesel fuel. The parameters analyzed in experiment Upgrading Brown Coal is proximate analysis and calorific value analysis, which includes the total moisture, fixed carbon, fly ash and volatile matters. The purpose of this study was to obtain lignite coal with high calorific value, as consideration of fuel economy, long look at the effects of time and temperature on the improvement of the quality of bituminous coals using used oil and diesel fuel as a stabilizer, and determine the effect of used oil and diesel fuel towards improving the quality of lignite coal and other analyzes such as Water Content analysis (Inherent Moisture), Substance Fly (Volatile Metter), Ash (Ash), Fixed Carbon (Fixed Carbon), calorific value. The reason for choosing a mixture of used oil and diesel fuel as a solvent and diesel oil are due to flammable liquids that could become the angler burning lignite coal, coal which has a low calorific value. Effect of the addition of solvents can increase the levels of Inherent Moisture in coal because coal contained in the mixed solvent with used oil and diesel fuel in coal is vaporized and converted into the form of moisture. Parameters are also influential in adding moisture levels ie the length of time and temperature. Keywords: Lignite Coal, Proximate Analysis, Calorific Value, Used Oil and Diesel Fuel
