Abstract

Manihot glaziovii is a plant which have low economic value because of the HCN toxins contained about 0.08-1% in its. Manihot glaziovii have a high carbohydrates containt. Therefore, Manihot glaziovii can be use as the material to make a biodegradable plastic. Raw material of biodegradable plastic is starch of Manihot glazovii. The purpose of this exsperiment is to know the effect of adding plasticizer to production optimum condition of biodegradable plastic. Plasticizer which use in this experiment is sorbytol, and other materials are chitosan, acetat acis and aquadest. The addition composition of sorbytol are 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% from weight of starch, and starch is 5 gram. The result of this experiment is thin sheet of biodegradable plastic that have been tested mechanical properties. Optimum condition of production biodegradable plastic is at 50% concentration of sorbytol which has 0.45 mm of thickness, 1.95% of elongation percent and 0.0050 Mpa of tensile strength.
