Abstract

Methane Gas Production by Palm Oil Mill Effluent and Liquid Ruminal Contents of Cow (Fitria Puspasari, 2014, 73 pages, 9 tabels, 16 pictures, 4 enclosure) The decreasing of energy resources and the condition of oil fuel that getting rare in Indonesia in several months, there is need some renewable alternative sources, one of them which called biogas by an anaerobic or fermentation activity that goes through a biological process by utilizing palm oil mill effluent and liquid ruminal contents of cow as a microorganisms to produce methane gas. The research aimed to determine the effect of fermentation ratio and the result of methan gas product from liquid rumenial contents of cow with palm oil mill effluent. The research was conducted using two process, the first one is an aklimatisation process were measured are the the degree of acidity (pH), the Temperature and the COD levels everyweek. The result showed that pH and temperature were not significant, but the COD levels decreased. The second process is a fermentation process with 4 point ratio variation liquid rumenial contents of cow with palm oil mill effluent (1:4, 1:8, 1:12 and 1:16) where the result of CH4, CO2, CO and H2S from the ratio variation are 1:4 (42%, - , 0,0016% and 0,0184%), 1:8 (16,2%, - , 0,00072% and 0,00108%), 1:12 (11,7%, -, 0,0078% and 0,00091%), and 1:16 (10,2%, - ,0,00085% and 0,00034%). From the results obtained it turns out the highest content of biogas at a ratio of 1:4 with 42% methane gas is flammable and the fuel that has a high calorific value Keywords: Cow rumen fluid contents, palm oil mill effluent, methane gas, biogas.
