Abstract

The Effect of Temperature and Operating Time for Making Liquid Potasium Sulfate Fertilizer (K2SO4) from Palm Oil Shell Ash with Addition of Gypsum (William, 2014: 73 Pages, 14 Tables, 21 Pictures, 4 Attachments) Palm oil shell is waste products of oil palm plantations which not included in the main product from the processing of palm oil. Palm oil shell has one of the elements that potassium can be used to make a liquid fertilizer of potassium sulfate. Therefore, it needs to do the research about the using of this waste. The aim of this research is to get liquid potassium sulfate fertilizer palm oil shell ash with addition of gypsum. Gypsum is a source of sulphate will be reacted with the potassium from the ash of palm oil shell. Cleansed palm oil shell, which is burned in the furnace at 450oC, mixed with the pulverized gypsum at 150 mesh. Feed ratio on the ash of palm oil shell and gypsum is 10:1 with stirring speed of 200 rpm. Parameter variations which is used in this research is operating temperature: 30oC, 50oC, 70oC dan 90oC, and operating time: 75 minute, 90 minute, 105 minute dan 120 minute. The product, liquid potassium sulfate fertilizer is earned by filtration process. The content of potassium, sulfate, and free acid as shulpuric acid of liquid fertilizer is analyzed. The optimum operating temperature and operating time is 70oC and 120 minute, with the result of potassium content 2,08%, sulfate content 1,79%, and free acid as shulpuric acid content 0,0038%. Based on the research can be concluded that the liquid potassium sulfate fertilizer which made from palm oil shell ash and gypsum has meet the standard, based on SNI 02-2809-2005.
