Abstract

THE INFLUENCE OF SULFONATION TIME IN THE MANUFACTURE OF SURFACTANS METHYL ESTER SULFONATE BASED CRUDE PALM OIL (CPO) (Azanul Pamani, 2014, 68 pages, 25 tables, 25 pictures, 4 attachements) Palm Coconut is an important industrial plants to producing cooking oils, industrial oils, and fuels (biodiesel). CPO (Crude Palm Oil) still could be improved about 70-80% of the value added, through the process of changing into a surfactant. Surfactants are amphipatik molecules consisting of hydrophilic and hydrophobic group, so it can be between a liquid that has a different polar nature and hydrogen bonding such as oil and water. Because of its lower the surface tension, the surfactant can be used as wetting agents, emulsifying agents known as solvent (solubilizing agent) and suppressor petroleum. The purpose of this research to determine the effect of time on the quality of the resulting methyl ester sulfonate. Examining the surface tension of methyl ester sulfonate surfactant products. The results obtained on the effect of time on the voltage drop in the surface at intervals of 4-5 hours 31.45; 29.70; 27.95 while the sulfonation time 5.5 and 6 hours the surface tension power back up by 34.94 and 36.69.
