Abstract
EFFECT OF COAL SIZE AND HEATING TIME ON IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIGNITE COAL USING A MIXTURE OF BIODIESEL AND WASTE COOKING OIL (Atika Wulandari, 2014: 5 Chapters, 51Pages, 4 Tables, 10 Images, 2 Enclosures) Lignite coal upgrading technology in general aims to lower the value of the water content in the coal. The main reason for this process is to reduce the costs associated with transport, tackling potential spontanious combustion, improving the efficiency of coal burning. In this research, the process of upgrading the mixing between the coal, biodiesel and waste cooking oil. Lignite rank coal used has a default value of water content of 21.72% (adb). Material used is a mixture of biodiesel and cooking oil. The purpose of the use of biodiesel is to dissolve the indicated amount of impurities contained in the waste cooking oil and biodiesel. Materials waste cooking oil mixture itself serves to coat the surface of the coal after the coal quality in order to remain stable in the absence of water is re-absorbed by the coal. The treatments were given during the upgrading process can be divided into treatment differences in the amount of coal mesh size 20 mesh, 60 mesh and 170 mesh. Subsequent treatment difference is the length of time given to heating the mixture of coal, biodiesel and waste cooking oil. Variations run the heating time is 60 minutes, 70 minutes and 90 minutes. The results showed that the optimum size of coal is at the size of 170 mesh with a 80 minute heating time. Product coal upgrading process results belong to a class of High Volatile Bituminous C. Overall effect on the quality of coal sizes coal upgrading process is the result of the increase in volatile matter caused by the presence of a number of impurities that have not soluble and oil that coats the surface of the coal so that the fixed carbon content decreased. Effect of heating time on the quality of coal upgrading process is the result of the increase in the value of volatile matter in line with the length of heating time given.
