Abstract

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT EFFORT LIGNIT COAL USING WASTE COOKING OIL (Nurjana Ramadani, 2014, 43 pages, 3 Tables, 9 Pictures, 2 Appendix) Lignite coal upgrading process in general aims to lower the water content in the coal. In this research, the process of upgrading to the mixing between the coal and waste cooking oil. The purpose of the use of used cooking oil is to coat the surface of the coal after the process of upgrading to remain stable in the absence of water is re-absorbed by the coal. The treatments were given during the upgrading process, namely the composition of the mixture of coal and waste cooking oil that is equal to 1: 2. Variations of this treatment is based on the mass fraction of each ingredient. Each difference involves the heating temperature is further given to coal and waste cooking oil. Run the heating temperature variation is 150oC, 175oC and 200oC and varying the heating time is for 60,70 and 80 minutes at each temperature heating. The results showed that the optimum composition of the mixture is at a temperature and long heating time heating 200oC for 80 menit.Semakin high heating temperature and the longer the heating time, the lower the water content. The lower the moisture content the higher the calorific value of coal. Products produced from coal upgrading process has a calorific value equivalent calorific value bituminous. Overall effect of the composition of the mixture of coal to the coal quality results upgrading process is increasing volatile matter (volatile matter) and reduced carbon fixed (fixed carbon) which is caused by the presence of a number of impurities are not soluble and oil that coats the surface of the coal. Effect of heating temperature on the quality of the calorific value of coal is increasing seiirng with reduced water content in the coal Keywords: upgrading, lignit coal, waste cooking oil
