Abstract

Purple cabbage (Brassica Oleraceae) is a kind of vegetable crops that is colored typical. Cabbage color purple can be extracted and extract can changs color on an atmosphere of neither acid nor alkaline. The atmosphere color extact on purple cabbage occur because of the color of ingredients in plants in the form of compound anthosianin. This research aims to understand the influence of a kind of a solvent in the manufacture of a substance the natural color of cabbage textile purple of the variation of a solvent acetone, ethanol and methanol, knowing the influence of the volume of a solvent extraction of the results of a substance the natural color purple on cabbage with the variation of the volume of a solvent 250 ml, 300 ml, 350 ml, 400 ml, and 450 ml and get to know the color of security that is obtained through stability test a substance the natural color textile produced. In this study consisted of two stages. Phase I is the kind of a solvent and stability test on the quality of a dyestuff produced. The results showed that the extraction of dyes from the purple cabbage (Brassica Oleraceae) with the highest dye produced by the ethanol solvent. The results of the characterization of the dye at various conditions are as follows: (1) Effect of sunlight 2 hours interval has the highest absorbance of 0.107 at the 4 with the solvent ethanol. (2) Effect of pH, pH 3 the highest absorbance of 0.083, pH 4 to 0.041, and 0.039 absorbance at pH 5. (3) Effect of oxidizing agents at intervals of 2 hours of peak absorbance of 0.084 at 0 hours with solvent ethanol. (4) Effect of storage on cold conditions (in refrigerator) for 24 hours has an absorbance peak, whereas at room temperature has a smaller absorbance is 0.016 in ethanol solvent. Phase II testing is staining subtance of color with textile materials that a substance the natural color of purple cabbage can be adsorbed well and not fade away when laundering by hero cloth, while in cotton cloth of a substance the natural color just a little absorbed and easy to wear off.
