Abstract

Biodegradable plastic of cassava starch and shrimp shell waste chitosan was made with the addition of starch and glycerol variation. The purpose of this research was to known the effect of the addition of starch and glycerol to the physical and mechanical biodegradable plastic. The method in this research was the preparation of materials, mixture of cassava starch, chitosan and glycerol, heating with temperature 60oC, drying with oven with temperature 60oC, printing on the glass mold and analizing biodegradable plastic. The test in this research was biodegradation test, tensile strength, swelling test and melting point test. This research was used two open variable, composition variation of starch (8 gr, 9 gr and 10 gr) and composition variation of glycerol (10% and 20%). The result of this research, the best degradation was composition of starch without chitosan plastic, the highest tensile strength test was 0,650 kg/second, the highest swelling test was 57,32% and the highest melting point was 258oC.
