Abstract
The purpose of this study was to construct and analyze the English-translated lyrics of Mars Polsri using Low’s Pentathlon Principle (2005). Following Creswell’s (2014) qualitative approach, the research used documentation, literature review, and one informant interview, with responses functioning as raw data gathered through simple memoing. The data were prepared, read closely, coded line by line, and organized into themes and descriptions. These were connected to the study’s objectives and interpreted to guide translation decisions. One practitioner evaluated the translation using the five components of the Pentathlon: singability, sense, naturalness, rhythm, and rhyme. Chapter I outlines the background, problem formulation, objectives, and significance of translating Mars Polsri for cultural accessibility and institutional internationalization. Chapter II reviews literature on audiovisual translation, institutional anthems, and the Pentathlon framework. Chapter III describes the Creswell-based research design and analytical procedures. Chapter IV reports that the initial draft emphasized semantic accuracy and rhythmic alignment, while revisions based on practitioner feedback involved lexical changes, adjustments to stress and rhythm, selective rhyme use, and subtitle formatting suitable for the song’s pacing. Chapter V concludes that Creswell’s qualitative method combined with Low’s Pentathlon Principle provides a practical and flexible framework for translating institutional anthems, enabling a balance between meaning and musical constraints and producing a refined English version that preserves the anthem’s message, ceremonial tone, and performability.
