Abstract
This study analyzes the plot structure of the movie Fight Club (1999) using Freytag’s Pyramid as the main theoretical framework, focusing on the five key elements: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution within a complex, non-linear narrative. The film is widely recognized as a puzzle film due to its intricate storyline, fragmented narration, and psychological depth, which often challenge audience comprehension. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method to provide an in-depth explanation of the film’s narrative structure. The data are collected through repeated viewing, note-taking, and documentation, focusing on scenes and dialogues that represent each stage of Freytag’s Pyramid. The analysis is conducted by systematically identifying and interpreting the five structural elements within the film. The findings reveal that despite its non-linear and complex plot, Fight Club still follows the fundamental structure of Freytag’s Pyramid, although presented in a fragmented and unconventional way. This study demonstrates that classical narrative theory remains relevant in analyzing modern films with complex storytelling techniques and is expected to help readers better understand complicated movie plots as well as serve as a reference for analyzing other films using structural approaches.
