Abstract
Drying is one way to remove or eliminate some water of a substance by evaporating most water contained by solar energy evaporator. In this drying process requires a heat source to evaporate the water content in a product by utilizing solar energy in a long time. The purpose of this research is to create a Solar Dryer tool type by hot air media generated from solar heat collected by thermal collectors. The hot air will be supplied by using a fan expected to speed up the drying time of a product in order to get water content in the minimum limit based on SNI 01-4493-1998 and determining the drying rate and to obtain drying performance test solar dryer. The Dryer consists of two main parts, namely thermal collector and drying chamber has three tray. The mechanism consists of a design evaluation, preparation of tools and materials, workmanship and performance testing tools.This research was conducted by varying the drying time for 2 hours; 4 hours; 6 hours; 8 hours and 10 hours by 2 mms thickeness of purple sweet potato chips. Based on the results of the research by the variety of drying time, obtained the optimum condition for drying by using thermal collector for 4 hours drying time at 57,09% water content, 2,7 kg / hr m2 of drying rate and 62,15 %. drying efficiency.
