Abstract
Generators are types of machines that convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. In large plants, one conversion that is often used is 3-phase synchronous generator and a stability operation required for the performance of the generator to be optimal, but if the generator is loaded non-linear load such as energy-saving lamps will appear harmonics that can interfere with the electrical distribution system the generator. After doing research and analysis it can be seen that the synchronous generator burdened energy saving lamps there are harmonics. This can be seen in the results of measurements on voltage 30 watt lights Shukaku brand when excitation voltage is increased up to 54 volts to 204 volts, THDi produced by 55% to 63% and THDV produced by 2.4% to 2.2%. While the Panasonic brand 24 watt lamp when the excitation voltage is increased up to 52 volts to 203 volts, THDi produced by 29% to 63% and THDV generated by 8% to 2.2%. The impact caused the magnitude of harmonic currents can cause heating that exceed the allowable temperature can damage the generator. Keyword : Harmonics, synchronous generator, excitation, non linier load
