Abstract

Liquid motorcycle workshop’s waste is a water that has been used and resulted from motorcycle workshop activities including the used oil spills in it. Generally, motorcycle workshop hasn’t a sawage treatment so the liquid waste is streamed to the drainase. To reduce pollutant content in wastewater is treated the liquid motorcycle workshop’s waste using electrocoagulation process. Electrocoagulation is a waste treatment technology by electrochemical process in which the anode releases the active coagulant of the metal ion (Al or Fe) into the solution, whereas the cathode electrolysis reaction in the form of release of hydrogen to form a floc that is able to bind contaminants and particel in waste. One of the advantages of this process is the unnecessary addition of chemical material. This research is done by batch system using stainless steel electrode with demension 11 cm x 10,5 cm and distance between electrode is 1 cm. The results of the initial characteristic of liquid motorcycle workshop waste show the exsistence of several parameters that exceed of the quality standard such as Total Suspended Solid (TSS) >100.000 mg/L, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) 148 mg/L, and also fat and oil 423,5 mg/L while Pb 0,035 mg/L and pH 6 that still in the standards of waste quality standards. The optimum condition occurs at 18 Volt and processed time 150 minutes. The effectivity of liquid motorcycle workshop’s for Total Suspended Solid (TSS) is 99,983% , Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) 78,37%, Pb 57,14%, fat and oil 99,7 %. While the current efficiency is 83,33 %. The result shows that the reaserch is conformed to the waste quality standards of environmental.
