Abstract

Purple sweet potatoes are one of the plants that have the potential to be a natural source of dyestuffs. The purple color of this sweet potato contains anthocyanin pigments which are also derivatives of flavonoid compounds. In this research, lip balm preparations were made which aimed to take advantage of this natural dye contained in purple sweet potatoes. The extraction of this purple sweet potato also uses the mesorization method. Lip balm preparation formulation consisting of ingredients, namely cera alba (night white), lanolin (adeps lanae), honey, methyl paraben (nipagin), cetyl, kaolin (china clay), grapeseed oil (grape seed oil), and olive oil (olive oil). As well as the addition of purple sweet potato extract with concentrations, namely: 1gram, 2grams, 3grams, 4grams and 5grams. This quality test is carried out by a cycling test which includes 6 cycles and stability tests, organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH tests and melting point tests, dispersal tests and favorability tests. The results obtained from the evaluation of the study showed that the lip balm preparation of purple sweet potato extract (Ipomea batatas (L.) Poir) can be formulated as a natural dye, in organoleptic tests it experienced changes in color, smell and shape in the results obtained. On FV (5grams) with a concentration of 5% has the best color and is much liked because of the good color and fragrant smell so that it attracts attention.
