Abstract
This research explores the idiomatic expressions found in the novel The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Idioms are an important part of the English language, often used to express ideas in creative and non-literal ways. However, they can be difficult to understand for language learners because their meanings are not always clear from the individual words. This study focuses on identifying the types and meanings of idiomatic expressions used in the novel, based on the classification by McCarthy and O'Dell (2017), which includes similes, binomials, proverbs, euphemisms, clichés and fixed statements, and other languages. These idioms help to make the characters' dialogue feel more natural and relatable, especially for younger readers. The results of this research are expected to support English language learners in understanding idiomatic expressions and appreciating how they are used in contemporary literature.
