Abstract

Approximately 16.42 million population of Indonesia is the people who live in coastal areas. The low they productivity cause they are difficult to get out of nonbeing. Lack of public knowledge about water treatment will have an impact on public health. To solve these problems, it created a prototype that can process sea water into drinking water as a solution to overcome the scarcity of clean water and drinking water corresponding quality standards of the Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia so as to improve the welfare of the people in the coastal areas. This prototype is using methods of filtration, evaporation and condensation to produce clean water without salt and impurities. At the beginning of the treatment water process are coagulation and sedimentation as well as variations of packing filter to determine the performance optimization toward water quality. In this process also conducted an analysis of the characteristics of the resulting product of drinking water, where the test parameter analysis carried out in the form of physical and chemical parameters. In the physical parameters, the analysis carried out, such as: color, smell, taste and dissolved solids (TDS), while chemical parameters such as: dissolved oxygen (DO), salinity, Mg2+ and Ca2+ contents. The test results of water quality analysis prototype processing seawater into drinking water has been proven to comply with ISO standards, in other words this prototype processing seawater into drinking water has proven can be implemented in the life of coast public with good quality.
