Abstract

The increasing pulp and paper needs raised concerns about the forest preservation of wood as the main raw material of making pulp and paper. Therefore, it needs alternative raw materials besides woods. One of the plants that has potential to bealternative raw materials in making pulp is corn huskthat usually removed or burneddirectly, hence that it can cause environmental problems. The process used was the Soda pulpingprocess, which separated the fiber by using Alkali cooking liquor. The pulp making process was varied with difference alkali concentrations and cooking time.Based on the research that had been done, it could be concluded that the higher the concentration of NaOH and the longer the cooking time, then pulp hadlower yield and moisture content, higher Lignin content, and Cellulose content was likely to be decreased. Best result in this research was using with 5% NaOH and 120 minutes cooking time with Cellulose content is 84.18% and Lignin content is 4.23%. Key words : NaOH concentration, corn husk, pulp, cooking time
