Abstract

Corrosion is one important problem that must be faced by a variety of industrial sectors in Indonesia. Corrosion effect in terms of economic and in terms of safety. One way of prevention and corrosion control is by the addition of inhibitors using purple sweet potato extract containing anthocyanin which is an antioxidant that can slow the rate of corrosion. Weight loss method is used to test the effectiveness of purple sweet potato as inhibitors with a variaties of immersion time for 48, 96, 144, 192, and 240 hours. Results showed purple sweet potato is commonly effective corrosion inhibitors in HCl 1% environment, because inhibition on copper corrosion rate with an efficiency of 33,387–53,192% with a concentration of 5.000-25.000 ppm and immersion time of 48-240 hours.
