Abstract

A research has been conducted to test the performance of solar dryer dual technology. It has done by using the energy supply from 100 wp photovoltaic modules and thermal collectors with a cross-sectional area of 0.23 m2. To see the effectiveness of the drying process, we used the variation of energy sources in this research. The dried solids are in the form of crackers with initial moisture content of 50%. The results of performance test can be known by the calculations of the specific energy consumption of the drying crackers. The parameters which observed are drying process conditions (air temperature into the drying chamber, relative humidity, and drying air flow rate) and also the water content of the end product. Based on these parameters, drier showed the best performance in the use of dual technology with the shortest drying time, which is about 5 hours, specific energy consumped amounted to 3,105.07 kJ / kg and 71.02% efficiency for drying 2.2 kg of crackers. In addition to analyze the economic value of dual-type dryer, can be seen by the value of initial payback period, 1 year and 6 months.
