Abstract

Our Energy consumption is still focused on oil and gas energy. One attempt to do is by providing a source of alternative energy as a diesel fuel that is now being developed is biodiesel. Biodiesel can be made by raw materials of cooking palm oil which is one of the raw material that have a chance of making biodiesel, because these oils still contain triglycerides, in addition to free fatty acids. Biodiesel production process is done by going through the phases of oil filtration, oil transesterification into biodiesel, and biodiesel washing. The product of methyl ester is affected by the feed ratio of waste cooking oil and methanol also the operating conditions during the process. Biodiesel production from waste cooking oil by using transesterification process be held in 60 minutes that use feed ratio of 1:4 and use 1% of NaOH catalyst. The heating temperature variations are used at 35 oC, 40 oC, 45 oC, 50 oC and 55 oC. The result showed that the highest volume of biodiesel products are 418.0204 ml for variations in heating temperature 45 oC with energy consumption of 729.000 joules.
