Abstract
Environmental problems from petroleum derivatives waste has become an important issue because of difficult to degraded. So, the efforts have done for increasing degradation time through replacement of synthetic polymer with natural polymer. Starch is one of the natural polymer that is used for the production of biodegradable material because it is easily degraded, abundant, and economically affordable but had disadvantages such as strong hydrophilic behaviour and mechanical properties are worse. Starch obtained from bitter yam, cellulose pineapple crown and glycerine was added to improve the physical and mechanical properties of plastics. Bioplastics are made from starch-aquadest 1:10 added glycerine 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50%. Then bioplastics added cellulose 0 (without cellulose), 10, and 20%. Samples characteristics analyzed visually, swelling test, and biodegradability. Overall bioplastics obtained smooth on the surface, transparent, and white. Bioplastics glycerine-cellulose (10%:20%) produce the best plastic value 68,19% hidrophobicity, and degraded estimated time 55 days. Keywords: Glycerine, bitter yam, biodegradable plastic, cellulose
