Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of fermentation time on the rate of methane production, from Industrial tofu waste liquid with an active microbial manure through an anaerobic fermentation process. The process of anaerobic fermentation is done in the digester which has been designed and engineered in batches. The raw material used is waste water that is taken from the industry knows and cow manure from cattle farms. The initial process is done seeding from a mixture of cow manure and wastewater know the ratio 1: 2. The problem in this research is how the influence of fermentation time on the composition of the methane gas produced. In the seeding process variables COD, BOD, and pH was monitored every week for 1 month. Then after the fermentation process in the variable digester is also observed at the end of the observation time of fermentation for 7 days. Fermentation time affects the methane gas produced in which the levels of methane increases on a daily basis. But the methane gas produced is still very small because the bacteria need time to adapt to the environment pengembangbiakannya. Observation time is only carried out for 7 days, while the time required for the activity of the bacteria during fermentation of at least one month before the death phase. COD, BOD obtained is also still high due to a short fermentation time so that the waste water is still very dangerous if they will pollute the environment. COD, BOD, and pH obtained respectively 20 832 mg / l, 12765 mg / l, and 6 with a concentration of 20% of the volume starter feed. Keywords: Industrial Tofu Wastewater, Methane, anaerobic, Batch
