Abstract

By the time of technology advances, particularly in information technology people are required to always work quickly and efficiently. The demands for the presence of automatic identification hardware becomes higher in today's modern world, therefore now designed a tool to simplify the process of workshop and laboratory equipment loaning in the State Polytechnic of Sriwijaya has been done manually. The Design of Radio Frequency Identification Implementation as the Identification System and Laboratory Equipment Safety created as a portal-shaped security system. Hardware is also designed by using RFID and ATMega8 staterkit. This tool works by identifying objects using radio waves. RFID Reader connected to the computer which read the ID number exist in the RFID tag then ID number is stored into the database, and the computer gives commands to the microcontroller of ATmega8A to drive the servo motor in order to open the portal. Portal will open if the equipment and students tags have been identified and saved to the database and will automatically shut down after 5 seconds. This tool is expected to be a solution for the problems in workshop and laboratory equipment loaning because the data of borrowing and returning will be stored in a database which can be seen in anytime so there is no confusion when the tools return.
