Abstract
This research aimed to identify and analyze the translation techniques used in the Indonesian subtitles of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017). The study applied Molina and Albir’s (2002) theory and employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data consisted of fifty dialogue samples collected from the film’s Indonesian subtitles. The data were analyzed by identifying, classifying, and describing the translation techniques used in translating the English dialogues into Indonesian. The findings revealed six translation techniques, namely Literal Translation, Borrowing, Modulation, Established Equivalence, Linguistic Amplification, and Reduction. Among these techniques, Literal Translation was found to be the most dominant. The findings indicated that the translator tended to transfer the meaning of the source language directly into the target language while maintaining the original message and structure. Therefore, it can be concluded that various translation techniques were successfully applied to convey the meaning of the original dialogues effectively for Indonesian audiences. This research is expected to contribute to translation studies, particularly in audiovisual translation and subtitle translation.
