Abstract

There is a requirement that allowed to use coal as a power plant fuel, coal has to have 0,4 % sulfur content to minimize negative impact that might be produced. While in cement industry, coal has to have 0,8 % sulfur content to be used. One method that can be used to minimize sulfur content in coal (Desulfurization) by using electrolysis method by H2SO4 0,5 M as electrolyte solution. The electrodes that used in this research are graphite electrode as the anode and stainless steel as cathode with the variation of time electrolysis and stirring speed. Coal that used in this research has 3,5552 % sulfur content and 3765,2455 cal/gr ofcalorific value. The optimum conditions of reduction sulfur in coal is in 60 minutes of electrolysis and 500 rpm of stirring speed.
