Abstract

To filled the necessary of fresh water, some people have developed brackish water treatment system with a semi-permeable membrane technology. Membrane semi-permeable is a membrane filter scale of molecules that can be penetrated by water molecules easily, but it can not or difficult to pass by other molecules larger than water molecules. The brackish water treatment technology known as reverse osmosis systems. This research aim to process brackish water become fresh water using by reverse osmosis membrane with Thin Film Composite type and know ability of reverse osmosis membrane with Thin Film Composite type in efficiency exclusion of rate salinity, TDS, Turbidity, Fe content and Mn content in brackish water using by reverse osmosis membrane (RO) which made from Polyamide (PA) with Thin Film Composite and pore size 0,0001 μm. Variable which used in this research is operating pressure (P) 24,7 – 44,7 psi or ∆ P 10-30 psig. The result from this research that Reverse Osmosis Membrane could given optimum operation on ∆P 25 psig with degradation of Cl early from 2,054 mg/l become 0,001mg/l, exclusion ability Fe content equal to 92,90% with degradation of Fe content rate early from 0,31 mg/l become 0,022 mg/l and exclusion ability Mn content equal to 99 %with degradation of Fe content rate early from 0,03 mg/l become 0,0003 mg/l. The product from membran RO have fulfilled is quality standard for fresh water based on Permenkes RI No. 492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010.
