Abstract
Rubber cassava (Manihot glazovii) has very high carbohydrate content that is 98,47%. Peel of rubber cassava also pottensial as the manufacture of biodegradable plastics due to has high enough carbohydrate content of about 70%.Therefore cassava rubber and peel can be used as a main ingredient manufacture of biodegradable plastic. Raw material for making biodegradable plastic from cassava rubber starch and its peel. This research was conducted to determine the effect of the composition of the sorbitol plasticizer and kitosan, so as to obtain the optimum plastic biodegradable. Other materials that used such as acetic acid, and aquadest.Addition of plasticizer compositions made from 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35% and 40% by weight starch is 5 grams. The results obtained in the form of a edible film of biodegradable plastic that has been tested mechanical properties. The optimum conditions obtained from starch cassava rubber and its peel on the analysis percent elongation with concentration 25% sorbitol and 15% chitosan amounted 5% and 4%. And the optimum conditions on the analysis of the tensile strenghth test with concentrations 15% sorbitol and 25% chitosan respectively 0,01838 MPa and 0,01348 MPa. Biodegradation analysis by the land medium has degraded perfect for 60 days, whereas with aqueous medium still takes much longer.
