Abstract
Air pollution caused by hydrocarbon-fueled vehicle exhaust gas is in a very poor condition and contributes the most in total air pollution, especially in major cities of developing countries. One alternative to the conventional fuel substitute fuel is hydrogen. The methods used to produce hydrogen in this research are by electrolysis and corrosion reaction of aluminum. Hydrogen gas is chosen as a fuel because the hydrogen gas in its utilization does not produce COx emissions as common hydrocarbon fuel. The Internal Combustion Engine testing method used in this study is to observe the work produced by the Internal Combustion Engine and measure the amount of fuel used. Work efficiency is one of the quality parameters of an energy conversion engine, in this case the work efficiency of Internal Combustion Engine. Work efficiency shows how much work is produced by an energy conversion engine compared to the fuel consumption used. The research results show the work efficiency generated by Internal Combustion Engine ranges from 25.7 - 28.4%. The greater the flow rate of the hydrogen gas material the resulting work is also greater.
