Abstract
The alternative raw materials changing the woods in pulp making process is really needed to decrease the waste of the midrib of a banana stem in the environment. The midrib of a banana stem contains levels of cellulose about 60-65% and levels of lignin about 5-10%. That is why the raw materials of the midrib of a banana stem become the alternative raw materials changing the woods in making process pulp. This research purposes to utilize the midrib of a banana stem as the alternative raw materials changing the woods in pulp making process to increase the selling values to the product that will be produced and create an environmentally friendly process and know the optimum condition by using cooking temperature variations. The process used in this research is the process of soda. Cooking aqueous which is used in this process is Natrium Hidroksida concentrating 20% with varieties of cooking temperature 90 and this process also be done for 1 hour in every variety of its cooking temperature. The raw materials used in this research are smooth raw materials and coarse raw materials. The result of this research shows optimum condition in making process pulp by using smooth raw materials containing of levels of cellulose about 63,5% and coarse raw materials containing of levels of cellulose about 63,3% in temperature of 105. While optimum condition for levels of lignin is found in the temperature of 10,4% and 15,7% for coarse raw materials. Key words : Pulp, soda process, the midrib of a banana stem
