Abstract

producing cooking oils, industrial oils, and fuels (biodiesel). CPO (Crude Palm Oil) still could be improved about 70-80% of the value added, through the process of changing into a surfactant. Surfactants are amphipatik molecules consisting of hydrophilic and hydrophobic group, so it can be between a liquid that has a different polar nature and hydrogen bonding such as oil and water. Because of its lower the surface tension, the surfactant can be used as wetting agents, emulsifying agents known as solvent (solubilizing agent) and suppressor petroleum. The purpose of this research to determine the effect of temperature on the quality of the resulting methyl ester sulfonate. Examining the surface tension of methyl ester sulfonate surfactant products. The results obtained on the effect of temperature on the voltage drop in the surface at intervals 5 of 80,85 and 90oC 31.45; 29.70; 27.90 while the sulfonation temperature 95 ° C and 100 ° C the surface tension power back up by 34.94 and 36.69. For optimum conditions in the manufacture of the MES surfactant is at a temperature of 90oC with surface tension 27.90 dynes / cm.
