Abstract

PROTOTYPE OF BIOMASS GASIFICATION OF SINGLE GAS OUTLET UPDRAFT SYSTEMS USED CORN COB (Work Study of Venturi Scrubber in Counter Current type) (Iftikar Mukti Ali, 2014, 58 Pages, 6 Tables, 15 Pictures, 4 Appendixes) Gasification technology is one way to utilize biomass waste into energy. Gasification of solid fuels change into a gas capable of combustion, is CH4, CO and H2 which is the result of the reaction in the gasifier. Type of gasifier used in this research is the updraft system. Producer gas or syngas produced in the updraft system still contains a particulate form of tar. Tar is an organic impurity abortion should be cleaned when applied as a fuel syngas combustion engine. The means used to reduce the tar content in the syngas is by applying gas cleaning technology, namely venturi scrubber with water media. This research purpose to review the performance of venturi scrubbers to reduce tar carried by syngas by varying the flow rate of water into the throat venturi scrubber. Variations in water flow rate used was 8, 12 and 16 liter/min. Results of this research showed, at a flow rate of 25 liter/min obtained 55.17% efficiency which is the optimal water flow rate in reducing tar brought syngas.
